FREEPRESS – Daredevil kidnapping bandit terrorizing Edo State and its environs met thier match early hours of on Wednesday morning in gun battle with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on the Benin bye pass leading to Abraka and Warri, Delta State.
One of the numerous security patrol vehicles purchased by Governor Godwin recently manned by men of NSCDC strolled into the suspected kidnappers’ ambush and fiercely engaged the bandits in clatter of gun dwell for over one hour.
Our correspondent gathered that the heavily armed men, numbering about seven would have had their way but for the time arrival to the scene by the NSCDC’s ‘Wabaizigan’ anti-crime patrol team.
Confirming the incident, one of the NSCDC operatives who witnessed the encounter and didn’t want his name in prints told our correspondent that NSCDC operatives would have fallen victim but for their cautious technical handling of the bandits’ offensive.
“We thank God that none of our men fall victim to the criminals’ ambush. The bye pass has become the den of robbery and kidnapping hot spot. We will smoke them out soonest”, he said.
Last week unknown gun men abducted one Mr. John Manma in his borrow pit along the same spot at the bye pass leading to Delta State.
Manma’s kidnapping incident closely followed the abduction of a traditional ruler, the Enogie of Ukhiri, in the same Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Aigbe last month by unknown gunmen who later freed him with an undisclosed amount of ransom.
